Day 22

Day 22: October 20, 2021 (Updated: Austin TX)

I have to admit, it was very nice waking up this morning knowing that I did not have to pack up the RV and ride my bicycle for hours today.  I woke up at 5 AM, wrote Day 21’s journal and then started working on my story.  I’m hoping to have the detailed outline of my story done within the next week.  At present, my detailed outline is 64 pages long.  So, it should be relatively easy to take that and write a book.  We’ll see.

Had breakfast with Bruce at 9 AM.  We then went to the bike shop to arrange shipping my bikes home and get the one recumbent tuned up.  I also asked them to fix the damaged wheel on the electric bike.  For packing the bikes up, fixing the damaged wheel, and the tune up, it was about $800.  While at the bike shop, Bruce bought a new bike.  He lives downtown, right by town lake., which has a 10-mile bike-walk path.  It is one of my favorite places.

Amy was scheduled to have her surgery today.  When Amy was brushing her teeth with an electric toothbrush, it interfered with her portable heart monitor and caused some abnormal readings.  Because of that, she had to be checked out by the cardiologist.  The cardiologist cleared her.

Then, they were concerned about her blood thickness level.  It has to be in a certain range due to her artificial heart value.  It was a little high, Laura told them how to get it in range, they did it and Amy was approved for surgery and was taken for surgery at 1 PM-ish.

The surgery went well, and her gallbladder did need to come out.  She was in recovery in less than an hour.  Amy always seems to get sick to her stomach when she comes out of surgery.  This time was no different.  The pain medicines make her nauseous, the nausea medicine slows her breathing down too much and her blood oxygen level drops too low.  By about 8 PM last night, the nausea and blood oxygen level were in check, she was just in a lot of pain.

Amy will be in the hospital until Friday due to her artificial heart value.  Normally, a gallbladder removal is an outpatient procedure.

I received a call from Ford service regarding the RV.  Nate, my service contact, said they found the problem.  The catalytic converter is not working properly.  With a one-year-old vehicle, this should be covered by the manufacturer warranty.  Unfortunately for me, the catalytic converter is not a Ford product, it is an after market catalytic convert.  As such, it is not covered by the manufacturer warranty.  It is going to cost me about $2,500 to get it fixed.  They hope to have it fixed by the end of business on 10/21.  We leave Austin on 10/22.

Does anyone want to buy an RV?
